Guardian Mercenaries

The Threat Against Darius’ Life

When we last saw our hero Darius, he was striding from the battlefield wearing only his birthday suit. After narrowly escaping being arrested and sent to the stocks for public indecency, he arrived home and retired to his chambers.

On his windowsill was a bedraggled carrier pigeon. In his claws, he held a missive for Darius. “BEWARE, DARIUS,” it read. “The enemy has contracted 1 million assassins to kill you!” Now, Darius is not a weenie, but a million assassins sounded like a bit much. “I need bodyguards…” he pondered.

After putting on his clothes, Darius wandered down to the village and took a look at the notices posted at the well. One flyer caught his eye. “Hmmmm… ‘Mercenary Guardians.’ Those sound fantastic!” He immediately sent the poor carrier pigeon back on his way with a request for an entire team.

Darius is Ambushed

Darius’ bodyguard team arrived en masse two days later. The timing was fantastic because he really needed to go shopping in the village and replace his clothing he had burned. As Darius and his new team of Mercenary Guardians journeyed to the marketplace, he felt the hair rising on the back of his neck… suddenly! Pouring out of the nearby stables came the assassins!

The first wave hit and Darius’ Mercenary Guardians missed the entire thing, as they were purchasing fruit tarts from the stall of the adorable farmers daughter.

Battle Report

As Darius reeled from the attack, he shouted “OY! Get over here, you useless gits!” The Mercenaries dropped their tarts and came running, taking up defensive positions at the front line. As the second wave hit, Darius thought smugly to himself “Now they all perish!”

Battle Report 2 Back Page

As the battle cleared, Darius looked around, slightly stunned. Half of his Mercenary Guardians lay dead on the ground. However, fewer of his traps were broken. The assassins converged for another strike. In an effort to help protect the Mercenaries, Darius built Tier 1 Traps. After the dust settled, less Mercenaries died, and as expected the Tier 1 Traps were destroyed in a higher number.

As the assassins gathered their forces to attack again, Darius retreated to the Castle. After cleaning his wounds, he sat by the candlelight and pondered how to put his bodyguards to better use next time. Perhaps next time, he would use his cores again…

Writers

Here at Teamrealtips we have an amazing team of writers! They work hard to make sure that you have the latest and greatest information. Meet our team.

Cinder

 Cinder

Cinder has been playing Game of War for 2 ½ years. She started out in Kingdom 878, Djotus. In a short amount of time Cinder quickly gained the respect of her alliance and her kingdom. She became known for bait trapping and over time has done everything from bait trapping to heroless trapping. Her favorite part of trapping is the emails when she caps! Even before the site players would come to her for her sage advice. She has advised past emperors and is the go to person for many of the games biggest names. Due to this Cinder had her own meme depicting her as everyone’s favorite. Cinder brings a lot of spirit to the team and loves writing and participating in the Game of War Community.

AlyKat

AlyKat

AlyKat is a long time lead and trap in GOW. She started in Kingdom 519 Midas, and took a journey around many of the Game of War kingdoms. AlyKat supported 8 different SW bids with many delirious nights and days spent on coms to help drive her team to victory. She offered support to many of the games biggest legends. School Bus, OMZ, Death by AJ, Savage Arab, and more. It’s no exaggeration to say the game would not be the same without her influence over the years. Her alliance Bx$ was one of the top alliances in the game for 3 straight years. AlyKat and Eagle were family for a long time. She took a break for about 9 months and is now back to join in the fight. She is best known for her years of health trapping and custom core creations.

Finally, we would like to welcome the newest addition to our team!

Bainesly

Bainesly

Bainesly has been playing Game of War for 2 years. He can’t even remember what Kingdom he began his journey in, but got no help and then zero’d within a week of starting to learn the game. He soon moved to Galacci (remember Galacci?) Kingdom 880 as a result of being recruited by a helpful pair named Hydro and Pretty, to whom he is still indebted for his initiation into how the game was actually played. Bainesly has since become an avid and successful student of the Trap game and was having consistent success capping and burning some large names prior to Demigods coming onto the scene. He is currently working on evaluating trap setups with Demigods and is working to get to the same level of success he attained before them. He’s the first to admit that he doesn’t have all the answers…but he’s a lifelong learner and will get them for you if he doesn’t already know.  He’s looking forward to sharing his knowledge and expertise with you all, and helping you become successful in the game just as his early “mentors” Hydro and Pretty did for him. Paying it forward…it’s what Bainesly enjoys doing best. Well, that and capping Heroes…and turning enemy Empires into ashes!

Emperor Huckster

In the Game of War community, we often hear that the people are the reason we play. The alliances we forge and the friends we make often only exist in the digital world. However, in between burning and being burned, for many players, the friends they have made have become family. Here at Realtips, we are dedicated to celebrating the people in our community who have become our family. We will be introducing a monthly feature of a player in our community. We want to hear from you guys! We want to hear your highs and lows and who you are. You are the reason this community exists.

This month, we will kick things off with our reigning Emperor, Huckster. Huckster is a force to be reckoned with in Game of War. He has held the Emperor title since March, winning three Super Wonders in a row. To say that he is a talented player would be an understatement. Huckster was awesome enough to take time out of his busy schedule to talk to me and share his Game of War Experience. He has a long history in Game of War as a top player and friend to many (and of course, along with friends come foes).Today we will take a closer look at him and his journey to Emperor.

Huckster 73v

Huckster is now the winner of not one, not two, but three Super Wonders in a row. He has won an uncountable number of events, and over time he has worked to build community within the Game of War playerbase. In speaking with Huckster, he really attributes his success to the community that surrounds him. However, while Huckster has become a force to be reckoned with, he was not always Huckster the Emperor. As many great players know, your greatness goes back to your roots.

History

All of us have a beginning. From our beginning, we grow and are shaped and formed as players. Whether we download the game with no clue what we are doing or download it with a history of success in MMOs, when we download Game of War, we are launched into our Kingdom and the beginning of our journey.

Huckster started out in Kingdom 336. There, under the mentorship of the R5 of his alliance (U5), SuperN008, Huckster grew to be the largest account in the kingdom. Huckster recalled how his mentor ran his alliance. The focus was always KvK and Super Wonder.

SuperN008 stressed that those were the real game and stressed to the alliance not to waste resources fighting over the Kingdom Wonder. This mindset quickly allowed them to become the largest alliance in their kingdom and gave them a long streak of winning KvK events. Huckster spoke of how he would go take the Kingdom Wonder and SuperN008 would come yell at him and ask why he was wasting resources for this.

One of the most unique things about this game, according to Huck, is the wide variety of players that the game attracts.

He recalled how back in his early days when the R5 could not shield, there was a player in their Kingdom that would torture smaller players, and no one could ever get him. This player was cruel in his play style and cruel in chat. Eventually, they were able to get an account into the alliance and drop the player’s shield. Their team spent three hours zeroing him in retribution.

Eventually, as all the greats do, SuperN008 retired and Huck took over leadership of U5. He began to build his own relationships with other players and eventually U5 merged with 73v. So began the journey to becoming Emperor.

Becoming Emperor

While Huckster clearly dominated in his kingdom and KvK alike, he stayed away from Super Wonder for a long time. At the point he had been playing for 4 years, he still had not made his own run for Emperor. He recognized the need to have connected relationships in order to be successful. During the time that StayAlive, Ctesse, and other major powers were dominating, he did not feel he had the support required to win a Super Wonder.

As many who have participated in Super Wonders know, it is a huge undertaking and requires a very dedicated team of players who sacrifice sleep and at times sanity to conquer the event. When Huckster finally made his first attempt for Emperor, they came in 2nd or 3rd place, and continued to build upon their successes to bring them here today.

During the last three Super Wonders, Huck has shown true skill and strategy. He has worked with teams of people to build and invest the time required to be successful. Today, Huckster has managed to create relationships with many alliances and he attributes that to his current success. Without the team, the lead cannot win. Huckster hopes to see this recognized, as he is aware that without his team he would not have succeeded in becoming Emperor once, much less three times in a row.

The Changes

After playing for years, many changes have come to the game. Many friends have come and gone and some have come back again. Huck feels that the game has come down to a few Super Alliances. Alliances that were once enemies are allies and joining together to make the most of the game they all love. Huck talked about how, with some of the changes and people leaving, we have lost as a community some of the middle-sized players that made the game fun. These were the players that trapped and waited to be hit and created the targets that you could rally around as an alliance. What Huck doesn’t want to see is the game becoming Huckster Vs. Doc and many shielded cities.

The community has a voice and Huck encourages them to use it. To give feedback and to work together to continue to build the strong community that this game thrived on. Because in the end the community is what makes the game. The community is what brings life to the game.

Why Does Huck Play?

One day, we download a game we have never played, and we begin. Sometimes we complain, but we stay. There is a reason we stay and I had the opportunity to ask Huck what his reason is.

“My biggest reason is because of the really good friends in the game that I like a lot. People who are smart and have insight into things. I’m reluctant to walk away because of what has been invested into the game.”

 Most Memorable Win

The victories are sweet. They are what draw us back and keep us trying. Huckster’s most memorable victories have been dominating events and Super Wonders. He hopes to continue his pattern of victory; however, he would like to see the competition continue as well. To Huck, filling the Wonder and holding is great, but what brings excitement and makes it fun are the competitors that require you to think on your feet and strategize to win.

Most Memorable Loss

Where there are victories, there are also losses. Huckster’s most memorable loss was the day Demigods were released, and he lost all he had built to one Demigod troop.

Gear of Choice

Gear speaks a lot to who you are as a player. Do you hide your gear or display it for the whole world to see? Huck’s current gear is definitely geared towards him. Right down to his gems, his gear tells you he is a lead and a successful one at that.

HucksterHuckster’s Secret to Success

Well really, it isn’t a secret. Succeeding in the current dynamic of Game of War requires two things, according to Huck: time and money. You need the time to be able to click things out and the resources to obtain them. While strategy is important, if you don’t have a strong build, you cannot and will not be successful.

Huckster is a great friend to Teamrealtips, and part of the reason that we are able to bring you in-depth information. He truly cares about the community and enjoys the competition. He would like to see the community continue to thrive and grow, as it is what makes the game great!

We had a great time talking to Huck. He has a wealth of experience and stories. Not only is he a great player but a great friend to those who know him. We appreciate the time he took to sit down with us and share some of his experience and some of his stories and wish him further success as he continues. We can’t wait to hear from our next player and would love to know who our community would like to hear from. Leave a comment below for us of who you would like to hear from and what you would like to know!

Conquering the Wonder

Our fearless hero Darius is currently hiding in his castle… I mean, plotting his next move. While he recuperates, this week in Crafting Customs with Aly, we will be focusing on crafting Wonder Cores to use in obtaining and holding the Kingdom Wonder.

In our last core article, we crafted cores for use in hitting Strongholds. Today, we’re going to discuss the ultimate goal of many… the Wonder. We are going to be crafting two Cores. One for attacking the Wonder, and one for holding it.

Wonder Attack Core

First, let’s talk about the Wonder Attack Set. For our core today, we are going to use the base cores below. These cores focus on Demigod Wonder Rally Attack, Demigod Wonder Rally Health and Demigod Wonder Rally Defense. Everyone’s maximum stats are going to vary based on your research, hero and core levels.

https://www.gameofwarrealtips.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Image-uploaded-from-iOS-14.png

The Cores

  • Horselord’s Curses
  • Horselord’s Famine
  • Horselord’s Pain
  • Horselord’s Strife
  • Horselord’s Cataclysm (three of these)

Now let’s add in our pieces. We are going to focus on the same stats as above and add some Demigod Rally Attack.

The Pieces

  • Fossilized Pottery
  • Crystal Hourglass
  • Seal of Plague
  • Emerald Tiger
  • Flawless Silver Rod
  • Master Warrior Crest

Rally up your team and get to work! Once you have taken the Wonder, you are going to want to switch Cores to the following Wonder Defense Set.

Wonder Defense Core

Next up, a Wonder Defense Set. For this set, we are going to use the same idea as we did for the Wonder Attack set, only shift our focus. These cores focus on Demigod Wonder Holding Attack and Demigod Wonder Holding Health. Health and Attack are always crucial in Wonder battles.

Wonder Defense Core

The Cores

  • Valhallan Crown
  • Valhallan Greatplate
  • Valhallan Stompers
  • Valhallan Fury
  • Valhallan Deflector (three of these)

Now, let’s add in our pieces. The Pieces focus on Demigod Wonder Holding Attack and Demigod Wonder Holding Health as well as add in some additional Attack and Health

The Pieces

  • Seal of Strife
  • Tribal Lute
  • Deep Emerald Tooth
  • Horselord’s War
  • Horselord’s Famine
  • Deep Emerald Horns

Some Final Tips for Crafting Custom Cores

As we wrap up this week’s episode of Crafting Customs with Aly, let’s go over some tips again that will help you craft your own cores.

  • Always skill your hero to maximize core crafting boosts.
  • Wear your PowerForge gear.
  • Keep a notebook or Excel workbook where you can easily manipulate your stats and try different combinations before you actually craft.
  • Take a good look at your base stats and see what you may want to strengthen. Especially in the current GoW climate, everyone is at a different point in their research, gears, gems, etc. What we did above may not make sense for your account. Adjust it!
  • Have fun! Challenge your alliancemates to a crafting duel!
  • When attacking and defending, be sure you have the correct gear, gems, and banners on!
  • You will want to have several sets of Wonder Cores handy, as they will not last the entire six hours necessary to close the Wonder.

As always, Teamrealtips invites your feedback below. Let’s see what you’ve got!

The People You Meet, Part 1

The People you meet

Oh the places, you will go and the people you will meet….

“You’ll get mixed up, of course,
as you already know.
You’ll get mixed up
with many strange birds as you go.
So be sure when you step.
Step with care and great tact
and remember that Life’s
a Great Balancing Act.
Just never forget to be dexterous and deft.
And never mix up your right foot with your left.”

~Dr. Seuss

The People You will Meet

I’m sure that Dr. Seuss never thought of Game of War as a place that you would go. However, many of us have traveled this road and met a great deal of people while on our journey. Some of those people, well… we wish they would have kept to themselves as they are some of the “strange birds” we met along the way. However, others we have met have become our greatest friends, and even sometimes our greatest loves. So without further ado, I present to you The People You Will Meet, Game of War Style.

People with a Lack of Money Management Skills

We all play Game of War for a reason. Whatever that reason is, we all have a desire to be at the top of our game. However, that comes at a cost, and packs are a real and needed thing. Unless you want to kill monsters and gather from under a shield for the entirety of your Game of War career, at some point you will buy a pack. Once you buy that first pack, it gets easier and easier to buy another. We all run for the Gold Store when we find that perfect pack. Unfortunately, we have seen people get to the point where the pack crave takes over and they buy packs to the detriment of their livelihood. They can’t pay their rent, but they can cap. Here at Teamrealtips, we recommend never spending beyond your means, and even have a Budget Guide to help you on your way.

Money Management Issues

The Always Wrong Rally Filler

RALLY UP!!!! FILLL!!!!!! We hear this cry across Alliance Chat often, and often we find ourselves hoping that one filler is not on! We love to Rally — part of the allure of Game of War is watching the glow of the fire we create in our opponent’s Stronghold. However, sometimes our Alliance mates aren’t quite on top of things. We end up finding our rally filled with T1 or — the horrors! — even old troops. This leads to the rally needing to be reset, and a conversation in chat about filling appropriately. We set again… RALLY UP!!! FILLL!!!! They fill again and it’s wrong again! We just had this conversation! “Sorry, wasn’t watching AC, reset and I’ll fill right this time.” So with a sigh of exasperation, we reset and pray to the demigods that they actually fill correctly.

Rally up

That Person with a Napoleon Complex

You see their Stronghold, you see their power, and mostly you see how they behave. They are obviously compensating for something! This is probably the most grandiose person you will meet in Game of War. They are different from the spender, which we will talk about later. This person is a spender; however, they are also overly aggressive and overly into themselves. There is no “I” in team, but do not tell them that. In their mind, they carry your team, and to crush the fragile ego they possess would send them on a rampage.

Napoleon Complex

The Spender

Speaking of the spender… This is the person that puts tons into Game of War. The average monthly amount they invest is equivalent to the income of some of us for a month. However, the spender does not focus on what they spend as much as the non-spender does. The spender spends for the joy of the game and what they get out of it. They recognize that they are a strong player but are strengthened by their alliance. However, due to the amount they spend, they are in the limelight and often criticized and critiqued by those that do not like them. The Spender is not compensating like the Napoleon Complex; however, often they get the same persona ascribed to them.

The Spender

The Monster Hunter

The monsters belong to these folks. Back in my home kingdom, 878 Djotus, we had a player that was loved by all. She would have fallen into the spender category, but The Monster Hunter fits her so much better. She was the number one monster killer in the Kingdom and loved by all. The monsters belonged to her, and if you stole her monster she would burn you with a smile. But you still loved her. Many monster hunters do not cross categories like this, but they are happy to just kill their monsters and chat with the people they have met. They sit under a shield, but you will always see their name at the top of the Monsters Killed Leader-board.

Monster Hunter

Grandma and Grandpa

The wavery voice sounds out: “When I was a kid, I had to walk 5 miles to school, uphill both ways in the snow with no shoes.” We know grandma, we know grandpa, we have heard this story a million times. We have Grandma and Grandpa in Game of War too! These are the people that have been playing since the game was released! We complain, and they are sure to tell us of their hardships as young Game of War Pioneers. They tell us over and over again, to the point where it is so ingrained in our head that we are not sure if it is our story or not.

Grandma and Grandpa

The Oversharer

This is the person that overshares to the extreme. Let’s be honest, at some point our Game of War friends become more then friends. However, before we get to that point, there is always someone that tells us their whole life story and way more then we need to know. There is only so much I can hear about your problems with certain things that shall… remain unnamed for the sake of keeping this article PG. However, please know that the whole of Game of War did not need to know that, and we can now never unsee/unread that!

Overshare

The Private Message Oversharer

This person gets props, they at least have enough dignity to not share their whole life for the whole world to see. However, they sneak their way into your pm and you think they are fine. Until it happens, they overshare, and sometimes that overshare includes pictures that you can never unsee. What do you do at this point? You thought they were fine but obviously they were just an oversharer in disguise. Do you block? Unfriend? Have an awkward boundary conversation? I am not sure what your course of action will be; however, take it quickly, because once they go into overshare zone it is all downhill from there.

Cannot be unseen

Direct them to Tinder

Then you have your other people, the people who really just need match.com or some other dating app. They are looking for the love of their life in Game of War and are really just there to flirt and look for their next hook-up. I do not know how it happened, but this is a reality of Game of War. We become so close to those we play with that often we have to be reminded it’s not a dating app.

Not A Dating App

The Non-English Speaking

One of the great things about Game of War is that our friendships are not limited to borders or language. One of the not-so-great things are the times that the translator does not quite function correctly. There is a reason we saw Hispanic, Russian, Polish, and many more alliances formed based on locale. While we do have the in-game translator, it sometimes lacks in the fine art of translating correctly. This can lead to massive misunderstandings and war.

Bad Translator

The Cheerleader

This is the person who is always there and always cheering on their team. We love this person and the positive aspects they bring to an alliance and the game. We meet some interesting people, yeah, that’s the word… interesting… however, we also meet some wonderful people. The Cheerleader is one of the wonderful people we meet. One of the people that keep us logging in and keep us going in the moments where we want to throw in the towel. The person that if anyone hurt them, you’d burn that person to the ground in the cheerleader’s defense.

The CheerleaderThere are so many types of people that we meet playing Game of War that I cannot fit them all into one article and do it justice. Just as in everyday aspects of life, these people fall into the good, the bad, and the ugly. We will continue on with The People We Meet in a later post. For now, though, what are some of the types of people you have met playing Game of War?  Comment below and maybe they will be included in the next post!

Reminiscing About Super Wonders of Yore

Evening falls in the castle as Darius sits at his desk, candles flickering and casting long shadows on the wall. He contemplates upcoming battles, and realizes that the Super Wonder will be arriving soon! “Ahhh, the Super Wonder,” he sighs. “So many memories…so much snoring on Discord at 3am.” His mind wanders as he takes a long trip down memory lane…

The Mains/Leads

For many alliances, the player who was going for the win was selected weeks in advance, or was already a defender for their title. Famous examples of these include StayAlive, School Bus, XxCtessexXDN, and many others. So much work went into getting their accounts ready for the Super Wonder. Hours upon hours of Core crafting, training, research and more. Success hinged on holding the Super Wonder for the longest time over a course of three to four days.

School Bus Emperor

The Blocking Alliances

Supporting the Main alliance were Blocking alliances, usually up to five. While the Main rallied and tried to hold, the Blockers had what was often a more complicated job. Their job was to keep everyone ELSE out of the Wonder in order to secure longer holds for their Lead.

Blocking teams had to coordinate with the other Blockers and coordinate with Main. It required a lot of timing and “shouting.” For example, a Blocker for School Bus would need to identify the main competitors and carefully time following them into the Wonder to knock them out, keeping their holding time to a minimum. This resulted in lots of math and cancelled rallies, as the opposition would cancel to avoid being capped. Hence the name “Blockers”.

Porters

These were the unsung heroes of the Super Wonder. The Porters got the front row spots for the Leads. They trained for this for weeks in advance. It was imperative that the lead accounts were close because you can’t win a Super Wonder from row 26! Yes, row 26. Super Wonder had thousands of participants!

GOW SW

Speeders and Fillers

The team! Arguably the most important part of the Super Wonder: nothing got done without a full rally and speeders to move in marches and reinforcements. Keeping the teams running often meant players moved alliances on an hourly basis!

The Coms

Finally, what brought it all together: Groups of friends working for days on end together on voice coms. There was laughter and there was tears. There was snoring and forgetting your mic was on when you went pee. Those four days cemented many a life long friendship. Hilarity was frequent, as you can see from this memory from (nPX) NanaTheWhite.

“The best memories I have of playing GOW are always the Super Wonder events. This was the time to get together with lots of friends throughout the game and laugh and play and stay up long hours. For some reason, my very professorial voice always made the others on the group chat giggle. One of their favorite activities was to make this very sweet innocent little old lady grandmother (uhhh) read definitions from the urban dictionary. They would find words or phrases and tell me to look them up and read them back. So if you can imagine me reading definitions of such glorious terms as ‘clam slamming’ in my very quiet, modulated professor voice, you can see why they laughed.”

Darius was suddenly startled out of his reverie by something flying in through the window and smacking into the side of his head! Falling into his lap was a poor, bedraggled carrier pigeon. In his claw, he held a missive. “Behold, Darius! It must soon be time for another Super Wonder! Start preparing your forces!”  What odd timing! “Emperor Darius…” our hero thought. “Do I have what it takes to take the crown from (D73V)Huckster3?” Do you?

The New Age Demigod Trap

Demigod Trap

What do you want to do? Lead or Trap? It is a question we ask every player as they begin their Game of War Journey. To know how to build, you need to know where to go. For many, this question often went over their head. They heard about the game and downloaded it, but they did not know what they actually wanted to do, or understand the commitment necessary to excel in what they chose. Over the years, traps in particular have undergone an evolution.

In the Beginning

In the beginning, traps looked much different than they do today. With the advent of Demigods, trapping became a whole new game. Back in the day, trapping was troops and traps and low research. Trap accounts were not easy to make, you had to have some know-how, but they were considerably less costly then a lead account.

The Demigod Era has changed trapping in several ways. In some ways for the good, and in other ways, not as much. With any change, there is always good and bad. Let’s dig into some of the key components of the traps of yesterday and see what’s changed and what’s stayed the same.

Research

While I came to the game late compared to some, back when I started in 878 Djotus, Research was still a big no-no for traps. These were the days when Nike was a big attack core. I found myself with a strong start to a nice rally trap even though at the time I had no clue what I was doing. With the advice of my early mentors and many tests where I was burned crispy, I focused on my defense tree, and as I got closer and closer to finishing it, the burns became fewer and fewer.

I still remember the first day I capped a rally and how excited I was. After finishing the Defense Tree, minimal Research was recommended for traps, as it added a lot of power, which as a trap you did not want. Advanced Research was left to leads and people with money to spend. Today, the power from Research is no longer considered important. In fact, the stats you get from Research are so important that traps are highly encouraged to complete as much of it as possible. This looks a lot different from the traps of yesterday, who were only encouraged to complete what was absolutely necessary.

Cores

Cores are always exciting. In the beginning, traps would spend days and hours crafting the perfect Defense Core. Recipes were highly sought after, but held very close so that they could not be found out. Cores lost some of their influence as they became more and more attack-based, and permanent gear sets offered more and more value for traps.

CoresRecently with Demigod traps, many times the gear we use is the same gear as leads. We are all after higher and higher attack stats so that we can kill off our attackers’ march. Recently, Level 6 Cores were released and the stats on them are spectacular. This brings hope that soon we will once again see core trapping become a reality. The thrill of switching from permanent gear to a Core without getting caught will hopefully once again be ours with what new Demigod Cores are bringing to the playing field.

Kunai

Kunai checkThe Gear that defied all odds, the Kunai, came about, and I’m sure that no one expected it to have the impact it did. Kunai stuck around for a long time: the DDR, or Defense Debuff Resistance, in this gear was a huge asset to traps. Many traps that used Kunai had to become bait traps, as leads quickly learned to not hit this gear. Eventually, though, even Kunai became extinct.

We have seen gear that looks like the Kunai of old, but we have yet to see a piece of gear that functions the same way. Different banners gave us the same function prior to Demigod and enabled us to utilize DDR in heroless situations; however, since Kunai, we have not had a piece of gear that is longstanding enough to defy all the odds.

Power

Power used to be a huge factor for traps. An unshielded account at a certain power was a prime target. The goal of a good trap was to stay in that target area. When everything started burning, power became a factor that was no longer a priority. The number one priority was capping. Because everyone was getting hit, it did not matter who you were. Leads were testing limits and not finding much they couldn’t burn.

Today in the Demigod Era, we are seeing power become relevant again. Players are once again noticing power as a factor in what they can and cannot burn. Two of my good friends play this to their advantage and shock everyone with their strong setups. It’s always fun when you are expecting a good burn and find yourself scratching your head.

Cost

Traps used to be seen as fairly inexpensive accounts. Trapping was considered more complicated but less financially costly then Leading. Over time, this has changed, as traps find themselves needing to evolve with all the changes in the game. While traps do not spend nearly as much as some leads, it has become necessary to spend a lot more then traps did in the early days.

Specialty Traps

One of the very special things we used to see about traps was the sheer number of ways you could trap. We had Health traps, Econ traps, Tiny traps, Heroless traps, Bait traps, Garrison traps, and so many more. Trapping was a specialty and you did not have to be cookie-cutter about it. When the game was quickly changing from moment to moment, we no longer had the ability to specialize as much. Our focus was simply figuring out how to cap, if there was a way.

As things have slowed down in the Demigod world, players have begun to learn new ways to trap. Trapping has become less and less about capping, and people are able to do their own thing. That, my friends, is the joy of trapping: not being a cookie-cutter trap, but being able to specialize to your own strengths. I have seen Tiny traps and Traps that use only traps. I have seen traps that are figuring out how to fly on their own.

These are the things that make spotting a trap exponentially more difficult. If every trap consists of the same makeup, then Leads know exactly what to look for when going to burn someone. As we all get more and more used to Demigod Troops, Traps, and Mythics, we are learning how to forge our own way as players, and that is what makes a truly great trap.

The Demigod Trap

In talking about some of the traps of old and how they factor into today’s traps, we are able to start evolving and taking pieces to build our present day Demigod Traps. What is important in today’s trap bears similarities to yesterday’s trap, with some key differences.

Factors to consider when building your Demigod Trap:

  • Gear – Gear is hugely important right now. A large majority of your stats come from the gear you are wearing. The current limited-time gear that is being released piece by piece has game-changing stats!
  • Gems – A new set of gems was released recently that will outshine all gems. The Divine Forge Gem Set will be super important to traps. But also consider that you may want to switch in some Hades gems if your gear is too good.
  • Troops, Traps, Mythics – Traps are super important to your build. We have all seen from reports that traps take the first and hardest hit. Your composition should make sure to focus on stats that strengthens the elements you use.
  • The Stats – As mentioned above, you need stats to support whatever you are using. For a while, I was pure traps, so I devoted all of my Attack, Health, and Defense stats to being focused on my traps.
  • Research – Be sure to keep up to date on your RESEARCH! Research is no longer a “do it if you can” thing for traps. It gives some important boosts that you want, and power added is minimal.
  • Boosts – Boosts can no longer be seen on battle reports and you can use more then one at once.
  • Boost Hall – The boost hall will be one of the most important factors you can have as a trap. These are permanent and stackable boosts that make a huge difference in your setup. They do not add power, and no one has a way of seeing what boosts you are using!

As always, my biggest piece of advice is to educate yourself. We have tons of information in more depth on all of the components above. Trapping will always be my first love, and as Demigod traps evolve more and more, we are excited to bring you the best strategy possible.

The Tiny Fighting Trap

“It’s a bird, It’s a plane… No it’s Superman!” Nope still wrong, it’s actually Chem! But if you have seen this Tiny Fighting trap fly by you know that he can easily be mistaken for a bird, a plane, or even Superman! For this month’s player spotlight, we spent some time talking to Chem.

Chem is well known in the Game of War Community for his Attack traps! People are often shocked to find that they have just been burned by a Stronghold 1125 with T3. However, we have seen it for ourselves. Chem is worthy of a spotlight and we are excited to share his Game of War journey with our Community!

The History of Cheminem

Cheminem (or Chem as many of us call him) has been known by many names. For KE, he used to change his name to ChemZero and recently we have seen some more fun names from him… but we aren’t sharing those! You know when he hits you but you don’t know when he is coming!

Chem has played on many teams including NKLS, FU, TIT, ONE, and MM. He first began playing about five years ago in Aetos, K212, when he found himself with some downtime. He began without really having a goal in mind but just building and not really knowing how to play.

However, Chem is a natural researcher, and he could not allow himself to play for long without doing some research (or “science”, his term for testing).  He found an article about trapping that made sense and sounded fun.

It started off pretty small.

While in his original kingdom, he built three traps. When the Kingdom became ancient, he obtained a new account in K374. He honed his skills. Over a few months, he built this account up and then rejoined his original alliance, NKLS in K358.

After playing there for about a year he received an email from a friend, “Dude, you really gotta check out K386, there are no NAPs, allies, wonder rotations, and everyone fights everyday like it’s KE. Also, no small solo traps.”

Chem responded with, “I’ll be there tonight.” Chem recalled how K386 was incredible in its heyday. He stated that it was the most fun kingdom he ever played in. Chem was picked up by TIT and played with them for over a year. He fit well there because they focused on one thing and one thing only: burning everything without a shield.

During a KE he was zeroed by Ctesse. He spent some time emailing back and forth with her and was eventually invited to join ONE to help with the upcoming Super Wonder. After seeing many players leave the game due to the rapid drops, he himself left the game. After the release of Demigods, he came back to scope out the new landscape and joined with MM.

Becoming the Tiny Fighting Trap

Chem’s play style has been ever-changing, based off of what the game has given him. He adjusts his tactics and builds, while keeping the same general goals. He plays small, gets set on fire as much as possible, does well on KE scoring, finds targets, and makes players drop shields so that the bigs can hit them.

Chem spent most of his GOW career as a pure health trap. He played as small as he could with high tier troops and as much bed space as possible; then, the game completely changed. After the T5 drop, the KE scoring was changed so that defensive player points were irrelevant. At that point for KE, he would mainly fill and spot targets. He built a prison for the first time; he never had one during the first 3 years of playing. He held everyone he capped to eliminate them from scoring against his Kingdom.

In March of last year, the game really changed. Chem noted his view that MZ no longer gave useable hospital space and started debuffing health. He marks that change as “being pretty much the end of Health Trapping”. He looked at it as a time to adjust and come up with a new plan.

Chem tried T2 and Kunai but was bored by them and couldn’t get them to work with high tier. However, traps were finally able to max-out research as the power gain was minimal, so he maxed out everything he could.

Boredom gave way to creativity. Chem wanted to try heroless trapping as it had become very popular. He had tons of ‘useless’ attack cores so he made sets to YOLO people and lose his hero. Here is what happened:

“Then, I burned someone. Bad. Whoa, hang on a sec. Attacking is kinda fun! Time for another adjustment!”

Chem switched from a pure trap to a small attacking account. He still wanted to be hit, so he built to burn people, to take hits heroless and to play as small power as humanly possible. According to Chem, It is a very difficult build that required constant testing and adjustments, but he has the most fun. He stated:

“No one ever expects a small player to hit back😂 Attacking makes me a better defender and defending makes me a better attacker.”

Why Does Chem Play?

We all still have reasons we play! Is it the joy of the game, or is it the people? For Chem it comes down to the people.

The people behind the pixels are why I play.

I’ve met so many people over the years and made some really great real-life friends: VladTepes3, Rogueness, iHel, Ctesse and all the folks in the MickeyMouseTrapRoom, just to name a few.”

Why Chem PlaysChem’s Accomplishments

There are many ways we can succeed in our accomplishments in Game of War. Some come from events:

“So many to list….Placing Top 10 in a KE with K386 was awesome….Helping to win the last relevant Super Wonder with Ctesse and ONE”

Some accomplishments come from defeating a worthy rival:

“Finally capping BholeBlaster was nice. She burned me for 9 months straight and I could never win against her. She was the best attacker I’ve ever faced.”

However, out of all of this, sometimes the things we are most proud of are the people we were able to help along the way:

“I think what I’m most proud of is being able to help out a player and see all their hard work come to fruition. ‘Omg, thanks a million, it worked, I capped!’ That’s very rewarding.”

Chem’s Advice to Players

“This has always worked well for me:

1. Set a goal on how you want to play and focus only on that. Right now, I focus on three things…soloing players, taking solos and playing small so I built the account to do those things. Currently, debuffs and high mythic count work very well.

2. Buy the packs that help you achieve your playstyle goal. Right now, most of the drops don’t help or improve the account enough to justify spending. Currently, I’m waiting for the pick-your-own ultimate helm pack. Then I’ll spend.

3. Always maximize everything in your account, even if it’s small and seems meaningless. All the little stuff adds up. Most accounts I’ve been on to help are always missing the little stuff -avatars not unlocked, gems not combined, gear not powered up, etc. As an example, I recently added a March preset that maximizes March size/speed and then adjusted my attack/defense preset without them to hit with the highest possible size I can, and also land the hit with maximum attack.

4. Take hits, hit people and test. Mathing stats, troops, etcetera is great, but at the end of the day, all of that is just on paper. The more you hit and get hit, the better you’ll be able to figure out what works and what doesn’t. Testing is great and burning for science helps a ton. Last month, my defense felt off so we did another control test and found that MZ had changed mythic attack. I also had changed my monster and a friend figured out that their stats apply to defenders.

5. Listen to other players and learn. The line rooms are such a great resource and you’ll also make some friends…..Vladtepes and DemaBoost taught me how to solo. Ctesse taught me how to counter rally and play the wonder, the players from real tips/mickey room taught me how trap, Carol showed us all how to get set bonus, Cinder taught me how to heroless trap. All those players may not have realized it, but I learned a ton from watching them all play, reading reports, line rooms and applying what I learned to my account.

6. Have fun. When the game isn’t fun, broken or friends quit, I retire for the 66367th time😂”

Fun with Chem

Chem shared some fun reports with us that we’re thrilled with you! Let’s have some fun with Chem!

A Rally Chem Won Against all-time great, StayAlive.

VictoryThe first Rally Chem ever led. His target was 136 billion and in Kunai. He rallied using Legend 27 Core set and lost. However, he found it funny that she could not kill the march and he had no attack to kill her troops.

Wrapping it Up

Chem is an excellent player and has helped Teamrealtips with many of our own tests. He is the epitome of what a trap should be. He sets the trend and doesn’t follow what everyone else is doing because it is easier. This is why we chose Chem for our June Player Spotlight! We can’t wait for our next one; in the meantime comment below with your thoughts and let us know who you want to hear about next!

Frankengear is here!

Frankengear. What is it? Why do I want it?

“Frankengear” is, by this author’s definition, “a mix of gear items, including special limited time items and others, designed to maximize stats that will benefit the gameplay style of the player using it”. Currently, in the Game of War, we are seeing several examples of “Frankengear”. We maximize the likelihood of success every time we find that perfect blend, then go out to a Wonder, or event within our own Kingdom as we scout Empires to lay waste.

Let’s consider some of the following gear “sets” encountered during the last Kill Event, “Army of the Dead Rising”…

Frankengear example 1This one includes some interesting items; Spartan Hero Lvl T141, Demigod Challenger Set Lvl 152 wearing:

  • Basic Lvl Jester Hood,
  • Rare Lvl Champion Ambush Kunai,
  • 5 Legendary items including a Shadow Cloak, Challenger Overlord Stompers, an Annihilation Blade, and two Berserker Pauldrons.

Note that the “type” of Hood, Kunai, and Cloak have been left out of the description. We’ll get to that later. Also, note the power-up levels on various items as marked. Nice. And deadly.

Frankengear Example 2

This one is creative… and potentially deadly too. Our Lvl 62 new Sapphire Hero, DemiGod Challenger Set Lvl 152 is bedecked with:

  • Epic Colossus Face Guard
  • Rare Shredder
  • Legendary Chaos Battle Plate and Bastion Cloak
  • Radiant Challenger Overlord Stompers, and 2 Radiant Annihilation Blades.

Again, the “type” of Face Guard, Shredder and Battle Plate have been left out, and power up levels are evident.

Frankengear Example 3

Finally, we have this fine example. Here we see a Lvl 142 Valkrie Hero, Demigod Challenger Set Lvl 200 (maxed) wearing:

  • A mystery Helm (Hidden by a Hades Gem)
  • Obsidian Lvl Emberblade and Emblazoned Armor
  • Radiant Challenger Overlord Stompers and 3 Radiant Annihilation Blades.

I certainly don’t want to run into this player in a dark alley. This is mega-deadly gear. The Emberblade and Armor are obviously Ultimate Grand Champion, since that is the only level that allows upgrading to Obsidian as we will discuss below. And, take notice of the Power Up levels… maxed at 20.

Combinations like these that are dominating the game right now. Frankengear sets reflect the needs of the players who made them, whether it be defense, attack, rally leader, or wonder rally leader. Each piece of gear has different properties and gives different stats and bonuses. Acquiring and putting these parts together is the measure of our Franken-skill.

In Days of Old

Older players will remember the joy and excitement of getting those Full Set and Specialized Bonuses when equipping their Hero in a complete, level 6 quality “Legendary” gear set. Often, elusive items were crafted at the Forge, and many got their first taste of crafting gear working to complete their full set. At some dark point in the not-too-distant past, during the last pre-Demi days of Game of War, those skills became unnecessary. Top-level gear sets were sold at reduced prices and this new, more powerful gear was released with the blinding speed of Usain Bolt running the hundred meter dash. That seemed like the beginning of the end for the skills of crafting and creating powerful individual gear.

Igor and Monster in Frankengear

A New Day is Dawning

But fear not, friends! Along with the rekindled opportunity to craft powerful, useful cores, we now have myriad options to create individualized gear that can max out stats and give you the upper hand in both solo and rally battles. It is as if you are Doctor Victor (or Victoria) Frankenstein, creating your very own Modern Prometheus! Because of the creative and powerful stats of the gear, I like to call mine “Frankengear“. Putting gear together in today’s game encourages the  “Bits and Bites” method, where every set is a whole new blend of just the right items to generate just the stats you need to win battles, defend your city, cap heroes, and burn enemy Empires!

While the Full Set Bonus is still a factor for simple sets such as Bastion and Berserker, the Specialized Bonus is not currently a real consideration, as it has yet to be tied to Demigod Troops or Traps. Without the lure of the Specialized Bonus given to sets, players can now feel free to make use of Legendary and Radiant Challenger items as well as the Special Limited Time items that include special Helms, Weapons, Armor and most recently, Feet.

Frankengear new feet stats

Getting started with Frankengear

Knowing the full capability of each piece of your gear set and how to maximize it is crucial to succeeding in today’s Game of War. Gear is as much a key to winning as research was in the early stages of the game. For detailed information on all gear sets, including maximum stats, refer to the Team Realtips article “Forging Ahead“.

As we have come to know, Challenger gear items can be improved up to Radiant level and then leveled up in the Gear Workshop to even loftier heights of quality and power once the Radiant level has been achieved. When kept together as a full set, the resulting gear is called “Radiant Challenger” and can be made even more powerful by applying Gear Set Leveling using Demigod Radiant Challenger Combat Gear Leveling Material. A fully improved, fully leveled up gear set of Radiant Challenger is the very top end of the Challenger gear.

Frankengear Promotes Cost Consciousness

Getting from a Basic or Starter gear item to a full set of Radiant Challenger gear, leveled up to the maximum (currently Lvl 20 per Radiant piece and Lvl 200 for the full Radiant Challenger Combat Gear Set Leveling) is, as you can imagine, costly. Depending on your gameplay, it may take longer to acquire than you want to wait. You may just want to get into the game and get playing!

OK, so what if you don’t have the items necessary to improve your gear pieces from Legendary Challenger to Radiant Challenger? Not to worry. You can still level up your set of Legendary Challenger gear by making use of Demigod Challenger Combat Gear Leveling Material. Or, with the “Bits and Bites” approach to putting gear together, you can start by using Basic pieces and upgrade any or all of them as you are able. The beauty of the Frankengear is that you don’t even need to use ALL the parts of any set!  As with every aspect of the game, you should play within your own means and use what you have to get as big a bang from your buck as possible.

Using Special Limited Time Items in Your Gear Set

All Special Limited Time items are released in three types: Ultimate Grand Champion, Grand Champion, and Champion. Each of these can be improved to a maximum level that corresponds with the type of gear selected. Like the simple sets, the quality levels run from 1- 6 (Basic through Legendary) for ALL of the new special gear. For Champion items, that’s it — “Legendary” is as high as it gets. In the case of Grand Champion items, you can improve one more step to the “Radiant” level (same as the Radiant Challenger maximum). When using Ultimate Grand Champion items, you can improve two full steps above Legendary, to “Obsidian” level.

Power up after Improving

Power Up the Special Limited Time items in the Gear Workshop using the appropriate Ultimate Grand Champion, Grand Champion or Champion Power Up Materials. Use these after you have fully improved the item and reached the maximum level of that specific type. The best stats are available when using Ultimate Grand Champion items. Keep in mind that, because these have two extra levels to improve, it takes that much longer to access power-up potential. Solution? Use Champion or Grand Champion items in the meantime. The materials are different for improving and powering up each type, so you won’t be wasting something you’ll want to save for later if you decide to pursue a slightly lesser item.

When using varied items to create a Frankengear set, you will not see an active “Set Details” button below the gear preset. Note that while some items may appear to be from a similarly named “set” (the Chaos Shredder weapon, Chaos Emerald Crown helm, Chaos Battle Plate  and the Chaos Emerald Greaves feet, for example), initial testing has shown that there is no additional benefit in terms of stats by using all these special items at once to create a “gear set”. Despite the similarity in their names, these items are definitely “stand-alone” items; no set details or bonuses will apply to them.

Putting together the “perfect” set of gear is now once again an art form in itself and a revitalized, exciting part of the game. Get creative with your available gear items and make yourself a Frankengear that evokes both fear and respect in your enemies! Let us know in the comments below what you think of Frankengear and what items make up your best “set”.

Building Levels

“We Shape our buildings; thereafter they shape us.” Winston Churchill

Get ready to Shape your stronghold with your building levels! However, this is strategy to how you build! Let’s take a look! From the exterior to the interior, what’s important? Now with Demigod levels a whole new game has come into play. In order, to even open Demigod Features your stronghold has to be level 1101. To open certain researches your Academy has to be different levels.

So whether, you want to be Emperor, a Demigod Trap, or just safe your building levels come into play and are extremely important.

Teamrealtips Emperor

Strategy

So what is the strategy with leveling up your Stronghold so that you’re stronger than Fort Knox? Go as max as possible or wait? Well let’s look at this from both sides.

Attack and Wonder

If you are an attack and wonder player you definitely want to be as max as possible on your building levels. These building levels will increase your stats and march size. You want to be the most feared anyways so level up that building.

Defense

On the defense side higher level buildings give more defense. So if you are aiming to just not burn, build away! However, with new demigod building levels certain levels are needed in order to attain certain stats. Building stats matter more now than they have in the past. However, the question remains whether or not players will be able to compensate in other places for stats that new building levels give.

Inside your Stronghold

What Buildings should you build? Barracks, Villas, or Hospitals… (oh my)

  • Villas provide attack
  • Hospitals provide defense
  • Barracks provide health

The first thought of traps will be to go for Health and Defense. However, don’t forget that you also need attack to be able to kill your attackers march. There is a balance needed when building your stats. For more information on our defense vs. attack testing check it out here.

The Academy

Academy

The Academy is a crucial building in your city when it comes to Demigods. In order, to even unlock Demigod Research your Academy must be at level 1101. In addition, further levels of research require higher Academy levels. If you keep a low Stronghold build your Academy will not allow you to fully access Demigod Research.

When it comes to troops T1 troops are unlocked with demigod features. T2 require Academy 1110, T3 and T4 Demigods require even higher levels of your Academy.

Banners have continued to update and we have several now to choose from. We have created several charts showing different banners based off of what stat you are looking for. Keep in mind, even if you are a defense player that attack is important to your setup as well.

VIP

Demigod VIP is here, and it is the must-have item of the year. Prior to Demigod VIP, march size for Demigods was only limited by how many you could train. March sizes were so large, that without spending a ton, it was impossible to even fill a solo march. A player could literally send everything they had at you!

Because so many Demigods were being sent, we were hardly able to kill any of the march, and players could continue to send Demigods over and over, until you were zeroed, with hardly any cost to themselves. Demigod VIP provides a solution for this problem, as it limits the march size your attacker can send, and it is definitely needed if you want to be able to trap again.

Demigod VIP

VIP 1321

VIP has shifted over the past weeks so that your base VIP is no longer 1300 but 1310. Anything above 1310 is when you get into demigod levels. In essence everyone’s VIP is now 10 levels higher with no cost but this did not change things beyond the number. VIP 1321 is now here and this provides presets for your Valkyrie Hero. It also provides good stat increases all around.

Game of War VIP 1321However, this is another feature where cost versus benefit needs to be explored. This feature will not come cheap, however, it is a very useful one if you are able to obtain it.

Journey to Tempus

Another day dawned on the castle, and Darius was lying in slumber. All of a sudden, he was awakened by something wet plopping on his nose. Opening his eyes, he saw the now-familiar carrier pigeon perched on his bedpost. He reached up to his face and grimaced in disgust. “Really?” he yelled. “Was that really necessary?!”

Opening the scroll on his chest, he read:

Phoebe Letter

As Darius finished reading the note, a knock came at his bedroom door. Wrapping a sheet around himself, he stumbled over and peeked outside. Peeking back at him was the most beautiful warrior princess he had ever seen. Blushing at his lack of attire (as usual), she said “My Lord Darius, I am starting out on a long journey to the land of Tempus. I will bring back annals of great mystery and victory.”

Darius just continued to stare awkwardly, captivated. “Well… okay, then. I’m off,” said Phoebe, and away she went, heading for the mountains to the far east. Two weeks passed as she ventured further and further from home. Finally, up ahead she saw it! Lurking in the distance was the gate to the Kingdom of Tempus.

Tempus

Phoebe looked around in astonishment. Everything looked like she had stepped through a portal straight into the past. Maybe she had? The highest Stronghold level dotting the landscape was Level 30, unlike the SH 1140 she was accustomed to.

Tempus Hive

Fascinated she decided to walk further into the Kingdom, but when she tried to move forward her feet seemed glued to the ground!

“Excuse me,” she called to a passerby. “I appear to be stuck here. Is this some sort of nefarious magic?” The stranger chuckled, “No, Miss! In order to port here, you need Loyalty. Best you join an alliance so that you can move!”

The Need for Loyalty

Phoebe quickly joined an available Alliance and began investigating exactly what this “Loyalty” did and how to get some. “Apparently,” she mused, “you can get Loyalty three different ways. First by opening gifts, second by completing Alliance Quests, and last by hitting the help button. Easy enough, let’s see what I can buy”.

Phoebe entered the Alliance Store to take a look. Inside, she found the ports, thank goodness. Although they were a little pricey, she realized she at least would be able to move again soon. She also found many other items for sale, just like home. The only difference was that instead of gold, they were purchased with Loyalty.

Tempus Loyalty

“Oh Gosh,” she thought, “I am going to need a shield at some point and they use Loyalty as well!” Thankfully, a fellow alliance member pointed out to her that 30 day shields are available for gold. Phew!

Tempus shields

After chatting a bit with her new friends, Phoebe turned her attention to the inside of her Stronghold.

Buildings and Research

“Holy Smokes, everything is so….simple!” she thought. Missing were all the specialty buildings from home. All that existed were the original structures that she remembered from her youth.

Tempus Interior

Poking her head inside the Academy, she spun around in confusion. Where was all the research? There isn’t even Set Bonus or March research! Tempus really is like a time capsule, she thought.

Tempus Academy

After quickly constructing some buildings, and starting some research, Phoebe decided to turn her attention to herself and her gear.

Hero and Gear

When she had entered Tempus, her Hero Level had turned to 0 and she had no Gear! Glancing around at the Kingdom, she realized that the highest Hero level was 50. “Par for the course in this Kingdom,” she thought. However, looking a bit further, she discovered that many Heroes had very little clothes on. “Darius would love it here!” she blurted out, clapping her hand over her mouth as people stared. “I wonder why everyone is so scantily clothed?”

She soon realized why, as materials for Gear and Gems were only really available in Quests and in very small quantities in packs. Some events had a chest or two, but the events lasted 24 hours each! Phoebe resigned herself to being unclothed for at least awhile…at least no one was staring.

Tempus Gear

Troops

Phoebe turned her attention to her troops. As she suspected, only Tier 1 through Tier 4 were available here, and after listening to tales of battle from her Alliance mates, it seemed that most people used Tier 3 or below. The troops were so simple: only Siege, Cavalry, Range and Infantry!

Tempus Troops

Laying back on her twin-sized bed in her Castle (because let’s face it, there’s no room yet for a larger one), Phoebe contemplated her next move. The lifestyle here was so much slower and laid back. After a few hours of thought, she decided to stay awhile. “Perhaps I’ll build a trap…” she pondered. “I must send a missive to Darius with my findings. Where is that carrier pigeon?”

The People You Meet, Part 2

$

Our Journey continues with the people you meet in Game of War. While we have explored this topic to a degree, there are so many people you meet in Game of War that we simply could not fit them all in one article. Here, we will continue with The People You Meet in Game of War, Part 2. Be sure that you read the first part!

The People You Meet, Part 1

As our journey continues, we will see all sorts of people: the good, the bad, and the ugly. In the end, you will meet the same people in many communities. However, Game of War brings a unique blend.

The People You Meet Part 2

The Keyboard Warrior

This is probably our least favorite person. The Keyboard Warrior takes things a step further then just your typical internet troll. The Keyboard Warrior makes things personal and uses personal information to hurt people. While many warriors are strong and brave people, the Keyboard Warrior is not and will tear you to shreds. Keyboard Warriors are part of the “ugly” out there so if you find one turn and run quick! This is not a person you want to associate with!

Keyboard Warrior

Whiners

This is a special breed of person. They will find something to complain about in every situation. Many times you find yourself getting sucked into the black hole of negativity when they are around. They complain about the game, about the people playing the game, and then when you complain about them complaining about everything, they complain about how persecuted they are. This person loves to sing their tale of woe to people who will listen in Kingdom Chat and are grateful for any type of attention so they can drag you down with them.

The Whiner

The Social Butterfly

This person is always around, in Kingdom Chat, in Alliance Chat, in Line or Discord Chat, they are there. They love to socialize and talk and you will find them wherever you go doing just that. A common criticism of the Social Butterfly is that they spend more time socializing then actually playing. While sometimes this is true, one of the things that we can say about the Social Butterfly is they are truly there for the people. Many times we find the Social Butterfly becoming one of our best friends in the community, and the great thing is they are always there to lend an ear.

Social Butterfly

The Antisocial Moth

You know this person plays — you see the changes to their account and you see them porting around. So you know for sure they play. However, seeing them speak in chats is a miracle in and of itself. This person is the opposite of the Social Butterfly. They could do without all the chatter. They speak only when it is game-related or if you are one of their closest friends. We often wonder what they are doing, but they don’t come out to play with the rest of the community despite our best attempts.

Anti Social Moth

The Manipulator/Liar/The Ugly

Where should I even start with this person? We have all met the manipulator or the liar. This person twists and tells the tallest tales. They ingrain themselves in your life and become your friend, but in reality they are not who they say they are. Unfortunately, they are a manipulator, a liar, and belong in the same category as our Keyboard Warriors. Here is the good thing: these people always get found out in the end. They can’t weave their web for long before people start to see through their lies and manipulation.

Manipulator

The Hero Collector

This person fills me with joy. We had a couple of these in my home kingdom. They go around before everyone wakes up and collect all the heroes. You see a long list of hero names gracing their Stronghold, and when three days go by, they make the rounds again and release and recapture just in case the person is no longer logging in. They want all the heroes and they won’t sacrifice the poor things by chopping their heads off so that they remain forever dead. In my home kingdom, one of our Hero Collectors referred to her prisoners as Clangers and would serve them tea. Here is the fun thing to do with Hero Collectors, find them at their weakest… and set a little fire! It is always fun to watch dozens of heroes scattering across the plains with nothing to wear as they run to their respective homes.

Hero Collector

The Blonde

There is always the person that asks the question that makes everyone go… really?? Maybe you should try another game. The Blonde asks questions about the game that you feel should be common sense and that anyone would know. Here is a little secret for you guys though… the Blonde is not always that blonde… Granted, there are people who should just put their phone down and walk away… but then there are the devious people like me. We play the Blonde and as if we have no clue what we are doing. Until you hit us and our devious trick works, and your hero becomes mine and you sit scratching your head, wondering what in the world just happened.

The Blonde

The KvK sleeper

Remember those all-night KvK? I certainly do — we would organize Line Calls to keep each other awake and coordinate our movements. These calls would be all-night chatter and we all know at times alcohol would be involved. KvK was always fun, but the calls made KvK epic! One thing that many of us were guilty of often, including myself, would be falling asleep. I often found myself dozing off and waking up just in time to flip gear or to find myself burning. Falling asleep during KvK resulted in many players getting zeroed or ruined graveyards… I tended to fall asleep on the side of a ruined graveyard… there were many times my log buddies saved my butt when I fell asleep during KvK. Falling asleep during KvK is almost a rite of passage in Game of War, and falling asleep and snoring on the Line Call made it even better with stories that will live on to this day. Especially when you woke up to find you were the only one left on the call!

KvK Sleeper

The Instigator

This person loves to start drama. They are quite adept at making one statement and then sitting back and watching the drama unfold, cue popcorn emoji or sticker. We all love a little drama; if we didn’t we wouldn’t be attracted to Kingdom Chat when the trolls are out and about. Some like to engage, some like to lurk, and others like to instigate. As long as you do not take it to the Keyboard Warrior level, a little fun and popcorn never hurt anyone.

The Instigator

The Leader

Follow the Leader! The Leader is a great person. Whether they possess the title of R4 or R1 you can always count on them to lead by example and be a support to their team. The leader makes sure that the little things get done and that everyone is ready to fill in and do their part. Whether it is calling out for fillers or, in the olden days, reminding us all about Alliance quests, you can count on the leader to be there and ready.

On the flip side we also have bad leaders. These are people that try to lead, but they really just come off as arrogant and bossy and end up getting ignored in the long run. A true leader prompts his followers and leads by example. Lead with Grace!

The Leader

The Lifelong Friends

We will wrap up this series with the Lifelong Friends. You meet many types of people in Game of War, some of which you wish you could unmeet. However, the lifelong friends are the reason we play and the reason we stay. The unique thing about games like GOW are that they are global and we are not bound by distance. We meet some amazing people in this community that we never would have had the chance to meet if we had not downloaded the game one day.

Our Alliance mates become more then friends; they become family. Sometimes we get the opportunity to meet in real life, and sometimes we remain lifelong friends tied together by a bond that many do not and never will understand. These are the people that keep us logging in day after day and that we look forward to spending time with. They are the reason in the end that we all play!

Lifelong Friends

Teamrealtips is dedicated to celebrating the people in our community. We meet many people along the way and each our unique in their own way. One of the ways we are working to do this is with our monthly player spotlights, so be sure to check out our recent spotlights!

Emperor: Huckster

The Tiny Fighting Trap: Cheminem

In the meantime, we will continue to bring you the best strategy and some fun on a weekly basis, so comment on what you want to hear about below!

time trap

Light dawns on Phoebe’s second day in Tempus. As she stretches her arms, she debates what to do in the coming hours. Peering out the window, she sees the Wonder in the distance, surrounded by large castles (well, large for Tempus’ standards anyway). “Do I want to be a huge Stronghold and fight for the Wonder here…” she ponders, “Or shall I try to trap them in my dungeons?”

Phoebe dresses and wanders downstairs to get some breakfast, until she realizes she doesn’t even have a Marketplace! “Well…time to make a decision. Trapping it is!”

After training a few T1 troops to raid her empty neighbor for food, Phoebe sits down with some blueprints and starts planning her construction.

Buildings

“Hospitals or Villas…and how many Barracks…?” she deliberates. “Let’s take a look at what each of these provides at say… SH 15.”

Hospitals

Phoebe had trapped before, and in her old Kingdom, hospitals provided health benefits. Upon further investigation, she was reminded that Hospitals in Tempus only provided beds for her troops.

hospital

Barracks

“Hmmmm…what about Barracks?” she pondered. Nope, no stats there, just training troops.

hospital

“Ok, FINE!” Phoebe huffed. Villas were her final option, and yes! Villas provided a Defense bonus.

Tempus Villas

Phoebe grabbed a goblet of wine from her newly constructed Marketplace and sat down to decide on her strategy. She decided to keep only one Barracks, build enough Hospitals to cover about twenty thousand troops, and the rest would be Villas for the Defense bonus. She toiled away through the afternoon building and consuming copious amounts of cheap level 15 Marketplace wine (the good stuff wasn’t stocked until SH 25).

Training the Troops

After she was finished building, a slightly inebriated Phoebe decided it was time to train some troops. She had watched some battles from her perch on top of the Villas earlier in the day, and had observed that Tier 1 troops went up in literal flames when attacked. Phoebe didn’t want to burn trap at this point, so she decided to train Tier 2.

All through the night she trained her army, working them to point of exhaustion. Phoebe was not going to have a repeat of Darius’ Mercenary disaster! Her troops would be disciplined and not get distracted by the swish of a pretty skirt.

As day dawned, she and her army set out for battle. They picked a spot close to the forest to wait for their prey. Shortly, along came an army out looking for some easy kills. As they charged Phoebe’s Stronghold, she stood proud upon the battlement and stared the enemy directly in the eye. As the dust settled, she glanced over to her prison and groaned. No enemy hero awaited.

Tempus BR

“Well,” she thought, “At least I won”. For Phoebe, winning wasn’t enough. She decided to take a nap and adjust her build after she woke. As Phoebe slumbered, dark shadows fell across the land. What evil awaits our proud heroine when she awakens?

Frost KingFacts about your Frost King Hero:

  • Frost King Hero Skills Include
    • Demigod Combat Skills
    • Construction Cost Reduction
    • Upkeep Reduction
    • Research Cost Reduction
    • Overlimit March Size
  • This Hero has some great debuffs and Econ Stats.

Demigod Sapphire Hero

Sapphire HeroFacts about your Sapphire Hero:

  • Sapphire Hero Skills Include:
    • Demigod Combat Skills
    • Training Resource Cost Reduction
    • Upkeep Reduction
    • March Speed
    • Overlimit March Size
    • Mercenary Stats
  • If you are T5- and T6-based, this is a hero you will definitely want to look into for its T5 and T6 Specific Stats.

Hero Level

Let’s look at Hero levels from each side:

Attack and Wonder

As a lead player, you want your hero to be the highest level possible. Hero levels give great boosts in attack and health.

Defense

If your goal is just defense so that you can unshield, your hero should definitely be leveled as high as possible. However, many of us old-school traps know that there used to be more strategy regarding whether or not you level up your hero. We are left wondering if, with Demigods, some of this strategy will return. For traps, hero level used to be key because if your hero level was too high, leads would not hit.

All of these need to be taken into account when choosing whether or not to level your hero:

  • Is the cost of this feature realistic for me?
  • Are the stats worth the possible decreased hits due to hero level?
  • If I choose not to level up, where else can I get stats that I am missing from hero levels?

Skilling of the Hero Tree

Skilling is no longer as simple as it was with previous heroes. We do not have massive amounts of skill points to allocate wherever we want, and it is not cut-and-dry “start at the bottom and work your way up.” Your points need to be very well-planned.

Things to Consider when Skilling:

  1. In order to put just one point in the bottom skill, you must use 24 points.
  2. Just because you unlock a box doesn’t mean you can max that skill; you must be a certain hero level to max the skill.
  3. Points are very limited (below, we will cover hero costs and points).
  4. Hero Presets do not open until VIP 1305.
  5. Hero Preset items are very rare and difficult to get, which makes using this feature difficult.

There are multiple factors to consider when skilling your hero. On the defense and attack side, skilling for attack will be very important. Here at Teamrealtips, we recommend skilling using a setup even the current Emperor, Huckster (73V) uses!

The theory with this skilling setup is that you provide max protection for your traps, which die first and max attack for traps because they are a huge factor. You want your points for trap defense and attack as high as possible and then use any leftover points in a troop attack slot. Attack is currently important for defense players, as it allows them to kill more of their Attacker’s march.

Which Hero

With the multitude of Heroes, at times choosing the right hero to use can be difficult. We have created a table for the heroes so you can look at a side-by-side comparison of their stats. We will look at Combat Stats and Economy Stats. The number in the table is what the Hero offers at max skilled level. So be aware that, depending on your Hero Level, you may still need to make adjustments for yourself.

Demigod Combat Stats

Attack

Defense

Hero Defense Stats

Health

Demigod HealthDemigod Economy Stats

Demigod Economy StatsDemigod Overlimit March Stats

Overlimit March SizeDemigod Debuffs

Demigod Debuffs

The Other Heroes

WIth Demigods resetting the game, are all of those other heroes irrelevant? Mostly, but not completely. If you plan on hitting any monsters, your Demigod Hero has no skills for this, so using your original hero is best for this function.

Bait traps! Toss your old hero on with old gear and swap that hero! With the expense of gear presets for those who love bait trapping, this brings a whole new level of strategy.

We have heard of many other uses for your Hero out there. People are using this hero for cost reductions with powering up and more! So be sure to check the Eco stats on your Original Hero and see how it can help you.

Hero Garrison

While the Hero Garrison is still in your city there is currently no demigod stats included here. Therefore, this is a feature you do not need to factor into your calculations.

Equip Your Hero

Gear

Now that your trees are skilled, equip your hero with the best gear possible. For a list of the best gear, check out our Gear Guide.

With the massive update, your hero will need to be at the top of his game to survive. Do you have what it takes?

Phoebe Travels to the Dimension of Dragons

Phoebe lay sleeping under her cheap wool blanket, when a commotion at the window awoke her. Cracking one eye open, she saw the familiar bedraggled carrier pigeon panting on the windowsill. “Just leave it,” she mumbled, trying to get back to sleep. Just as she was drifting back into her dream about Darius, she felt a wet plop on her neck. “Ewwww!” she exclaimed. “That wasn’t part of my Darius dream…”

Extracting the notice, she opened it and read, “Hail fair Phoebe! Hasten homeward, as a portal has appeared to the Dragon War Dimension! Tales from the new land speak of a world similar to Tempus, and your expertise has been requested by the King.”

The Journey to the Dragon War Dimension

“Good grief!” she thought. “I just got here! …But I have always wanted my own Dragon. I’ll name her TinkerFire.” After collecting her meager belongings, Phoebe set off for home. Darius was waiting at the entrance to the Kingdom and a blush spread over her face, as she remembered her dream from the morning.

“Phoebe! So glad you have arrived,” he exclaimed. “The gate to the Dragon Dimension lies just inside your city. Safe passage to you!”

“Not even a offer for mead,” Phoebe thought sourly. She entered her stronghold and quickly found the new portal.

Dragon Dimension

After assuring herself that she could return at any time, she took a deep breath and leapt in. It was so pretty and purple! “This is so disorienting,” she thought, “I hope I don’t land on my head!”

Portal journey

Almost as soon as it started, Phoebe was spit out on the other side. Landing on her butt, she muttered, “Perhaps I should have been more specific.” Staring around, she observed the land surrounding her. Strongholds dotted the landscape as far as the eye could see. Above all, there were adorable dragons! Dragons were everywhere: pulling carts, attacking other strongholds… even the monsters were dragons!

Dragons

Tearing her eyes away from the dragons, Phoebe took a closer look at the inside of her new Stronghold. “Yep,” she thought, “This is pretty similar to Tempus. Loyalty is used instead of gold, Villas give defense. Gear is slightly different… better events… AND DRAGONS!”

Before she got started building her new Stronghold, Phoebe dashed off a missive to her friend at Realtips with an invitation to come and visit. “Hail Cinder! Perchance you can join me in exploring the Dimension of Dragons, and share your findings with the world! And perhaps bring Darius…”

As you may have read in her travelogue, Phoebe enjoyed her journey into the Dragon Dimension and has decided to stay for awhile. In the meantime, she messaged her favorite Realtips Team and told us all about her journey. So we took our own journey through the vortex so that we could bring back the best tips for you.

We have received our own Dragon to roam with in another realm of Game of War. Entering this realm is like taking a step back in time… with a twist. So step through the portal with us, as we explore the Realm of Dragons!

PortalEntering Dragonville

“You’re traveling through another dimension,
a dimension not only of sight and sound but of mind;
a journey into a wondrous land whose boundaries are that of imagination.
That’s the signpost up ahead– your next stop . . . the Twilight Zone!”

~Twilight Zone Season 2 Theme Song

Stepping Through the Portal

Entering the Dragon Dimension is an experience in and of itself. You travel through a mesmerizing portal to the other side, where you are greeted for the first time with fireworks and a hearty welcome. It can feel a bit disconcerting at first, as you don’t know what to expect, and then you find that you have somehow landed in the past with a twist, truly making it another dimension.

Getting Started

Entering the Dragon War Dimension gives one the feeling of having just downloaded the game for the very first time. You walk through a tutorial and are welcomed to the Dragon War Realm with Fireworks. However, be aware — you may want to turn you quests bar back on so it is available!

Starting Items

Just like when you first download Game of War, you are given some basic items to get started.

  • 10k of each resource
  • Name Change
  • Hero Select
  • Avatar Select
  • City Rename
  • Change Profile Image
  • 100 Gold
  • Beginners Teleports

When you enter, you can unlock your Dragon’s Den. This takes one hour to complete. While this timer is running down, use that time to begin other functions, such as joining an Alliance, building, and researching.

Once your Dragon’s Den is unlocked, you receive a Dragon Egg. In order to hatch your Dragon, you must level up the Den to Level 2. Flip to the Building Tab on your Den and hit Upgrade. There are no requirements for this Upgrade; it is an automatic level up that requires no time. Once you Upgrade, your Dragon automatically hatches.

Dragon HatchingThe Dragon

The Dragon (and Dragon’s Den) is a new feature that we have never encountered before. Testing is needed! We have, however, managed to ascertain some basics from beginning game play. Your Dragon’s Den has three tabs.

  1. Building Tab
The Building Tab will be recognizable. From here you can upgrade your Den and find information about the Den.Dragon Den Building Tab
  2. Dragon Tab
The Dragon Tab is new to us. Here, you can see your Dragon, as well as your HP (hit points). Just like your troops, your Dragon can take damage. When your HP decreases, so will your Attack and Defense Boosts. The Dragon is able to heal over time. You can also purchase instant Heal items from the Store if this takes too long. You can level up your Dragon and see your Dragons Stat Rating from this tab as well. In the upper left hand of this tab, you can see three symbols. This indicates where you have allocated your Dragon Skills.Dragon's Den Dragon Tab
  3. Skills Tab
Finally, you have your Skills Tab. This offers three columns of skills. One Column is geared towards attack, one towards defense, and one towards utility (economy skills). You unlock skills and higher levels of the skills by leveling up your Dragon. You can reset skills at no cost! So test and reskill as much as needed.
Dragon's Den Skills tab
Dragon Facts
  • Leveling up your Dragon Costs Dragon Level Up Crystals.
  • Your Dragon has HP (Hit Points), and takes damage like your Troops do.
  • As HP decreases in Combat, Attack and Defense boosts will decrease with it.
  • Your Dragon’s stats can be customized utilizing a skill tree.
  • Your Dragon can join Rallies and Marches and will assist in Combat.
  • The Dragon must be at 100% HP to participate in Rallies or Marches.
  • You can send up to 9 Dragons per Rally.
  • Your Dragon can occupy and defend your Empire, Resource Tiles, Wonder, etc.
  • Your Dragon will naturally heal itself over time while it rests in the Dragon’s Den.
  • Instant Heal Items can be found in Special Sales.

Events

What would Game of War be without Events? Just like in the Demigod Dimension, there are events to help sustain you with prizes. The events in the Dragon Dimension are attainable, and here’s the thing — the prizes are worth it, because not only do you earn prizes for your Dragon City, but you earn prizes that get sent home to the Demigod Dimension.

Linked events can include:

  • Alliance Events
  • Build/Research/Train Events
  • Inferno Events
  • Kill Events
  • Monster Events
  • …and More!

You can tell if an event is Linked because a Linked event will have two links at the bottom of the symbol, like this one.

Linked EventYou can see where your prizes are going by looking at the event as you finish the milestones. It will tell you where they went.

Game of War EventsBuildings

As you begin to build, you will notice that the buildings are the same ones you are used to. It is truly like taking a step back into time and starting from Stronghold 1. Buildings max out at Level 30, so there is no more 1140 or 1150. In the Dragon Dimension, the numbers are once again manageable.

A big difference you will note are your Villas, Barracks, and Hospitals. We have become accustomed to these buildings giving us certain stats, but they are a little different in the Dragon Dimension.

  • Barracks give a larger Troop Queue and Training Speed.
  • Hospitals give increased Hospital Capacity and Healing Speed.
  • Villas give Defense starting at level 10.

However, all of the special buildings off to the side are gone, leaving only the Dungeon, which includes a Lightning Shardbeast who drops resources and Speed Up items for your Dragon Realm. Energy is obtainable through the Gold Store or by purchasing it with Loyalty.

In the Dungeon, you will also find the entrance to the Explorer Dungeon, which is listed as “Coming Soon!” This hints at another feature we may get to revisit that we haven’t seen as relevant for a long time.

Finally, off to the side is the portal back to the Demigod Realm. There is no gear workshop, potion lab, or any of the other special buildings off to the side.

Loyalty

Loyalty is something that we have been acclimating to in the Demigod Dimension. We can earn this by doing quests and completing other things. In the Dragon Dimension, Loyalty is very valuable. This is how you will buy a large number of items through your alliance store. You want to be sure to be completing quests and earning as much Loyalty as possible, as Loyalty is essential to being able to shield.

Hero

Your Hero is once again like our old heroes. You level your hero up using Hero XP. This can be obtained through Alliance Gifts, Quests, Gold Store, and more. Opening your skills tree for your hero will truly be like taking a step back in time as it is very similar to the skills tree of the Original Hero before a million things were added.

Research

There are Four Research Trees in the Dragon Realm. The academy has been cleaned out and taken back to basics. Here is the really exciting thing: these Research trees do not require you to purchase unlocks. All you need is regular resources to complete them.

The Four Trees you will see are:

  • Hero
  • Combat
  • Wall Traps
  • Economics

Breaking Down Dragonville

To say that the Dragon Dimension has brought a lot of conversation and opinions would be an understatement. However, while people have certainly voiced their concerns about the Dragon War Dimension, it does have some positive aspects to it.

  • There are not a million different types of Resources.
  • Research does not require unlocks.
  • Monster Killing is once again relevant for those who love to kill monsters.
  • Tiles are present for the farmers.
  • Old School Strategy is back in play, including 8 hour rallies to protect yourself when you can’t afford a shield.
  • Events give good prizes both for the Dragon War Dimension and the Demigod Dimension
  • Numbers are manageable.
  • Buildings are manageable.

The preview is a nice way to experience this dimension and find out what you think about it. In addition, the fact that progress will be saved from the preview, and that the preview has now been extended, gives us extra time to really explore the Dragon Dimension. There is still so much more to discover and learn and Teamrealtips is here to walk on this journey with you. We will be posting more updated information as we encounter it. Comment below and let us know what you would like to know about our new dimension!

Phoebe Goes Gear Shopping

As darkness fell over Phoebe’s first day in Dragonville, she snuggled under yet another cheap blanket, shivering with cold. “Tomorrow I must procure some clothing,” she muttered. The next day, after burning everyone around her, she set out to the Forge to see what the smiths had to offer.

Glancing around the intensely hot building, she admired all the blacksmiths hard at work. Sweat glistening off their… “Stop it!” she scolded herself, “Remember Darius…” Tuning out the workers around her, she perused the selection of gear available.

Sentinel’s Gear Set

The first display to catch her eye featured the Sentinel’s Defensive gear set. “Hmmm…” she thought. “I definitely need some protection here.” She eyed the stats critically:

wdt_ID Gear Piece Minimum Hero Level Max Troop Defense Bonus Trap Attack Troop Load Troop Health Bonus Materials Needed
1 Sentinel's Watch 30 249% 0% 0% 0% Dense Metal, Iron Linking (2), Cured Rugged Hide
2 Sentinel's Plate 30 207% 8% 16% 0% Corrupted Die, Dense Metal, Cured Rugged Hide, Iron Linking
3 Sentinel's Greaves 30 168% 0% 10% 0% Cured Rugged Hide, Dense Metal, Steel Silk, Iron Linking
4 Sentinel's Storm Spear 30 73% 41% 0% 0% Living Wood (2), Dense Metal (2)

7 Sentinel's Ring 30 53% 16% 16% 0% Corrupted Die, Dense Metal, Cured Rugged Hide, Fire Scales

Now, Phoebe had been working hard all morning hitting other Strongholds to level up her hero. She discovered that hitting cities with low-level dragons home gave a significant amount of Hero XP. As such, her Hero was now Level 30. “Thank blazes, I can craft defensive gear!” she rejoiced.

After ordering a set of Sentinel’s Gear from the sweaty, glistening blacksmiths, she turned her attention to gear for attacking.

Arbiter’s Gear Set

Checking the tags on the gear, Phoebe noticed that this gear required Hero 40. “Well, poo,” she thought. “Guess I’m going to get more hate mail. This set has both attack AND defense. March speed too!” Always prepared, Phoebe wrote down the stats for future reference.

wdt_ID Gear Min Hero Level Troop Attack Bonus Troop Defense Bonus Attack March Speed Troop Health Bonus Materials Required

7 Arbiter's Call 40 40% 0% 18% 0% Doom Hide (2), Harvest Idol, Sturdy Bones

After browsing the Arbiter section, Phoebe turned her attention to the gear in the back. “Well hey,” she thought, “these items don’t require such a high Hero level. Mayhap the stats on these can help fill in the gaps.” Fishing out her trusty quill, she started taking notes.

Exhausted from the heat and excessive shopping, Phoebe gathered her Sentinel gear and headed back to her room with one final glance at the burly blacksmith hammering away at an Arbiter’s Judgement . Collapsing on the bed, she pondered her next move. Leveling up her Hero was a must, but perhaps she could bait some hits…

Game of War High

Four years of our lives are spent dedicated to this thing we call “high school.” However, some days I contemplate whether we ever actually leave high school. There are so many aspects of life that end up being just like high school. In Game of War, we have Protected Kingdoms.

Protected Kingdoms exist within their own bubble. You sit and you grow and you learn within the bubble until you are ready to be released onto the rest of the Game of War and your Kingdom is made ancient. Protected Kingdoms are unique in how they work and their dynamics, and in many ways they are the high school of Game of War. So join us for some fun as we see how a Protected Kingdom resembles high school…

Game of War High School

You download the game and you are launched into a Protected Kingdom. You are in awe of the bigger players within the Kingdom and ready to get building and learning so that you can one day be one of them. Freshman Year has begun!

You’re Stuck There

You can not leave High School and you cannot leave a Protected Kingdom. You are stuck there. Day in and day out, you go and you do your daily tasks, and wait for the day you are launched out into the real world.

StuckYou Can’t Wait to Get Out

Have you ever noticed that when you are in High School, you can’t wait to get out of High School? Conversations are dotted with talk of plans for the future and things you will do when you get out of High School. It is the same in a protected Kingdom!

I remember when I began in my Protected Kingdom, wondering and waiting with my Kingdom, hoping for the day we would become ancient. The most common statement was, “I can’t wait until we become ancient, I’m porting out the day it happens.” We are so ready to leave our Protected Kingdoms — but just like in High School, when the day comes that we are ready to be launched, we often linger as we get ready to face the “real GOW world.”

I can't wait to get out

You Meet the Same People in a Group

Group projects… I don’t feel like I really need to elaborate. In every group you will have the Overachiever, the Ghost, The Slacker, and the Space Cadet. This doesn’t end: you will always run into these personalities.

In every alliance, you will have an overachiever. They will get most of the points for Alliance events, make sure everything is on track, and constantly be pushing buttons to ensure the success of your Alliance. You will have the ghost who shows up, disappears, and then when it is done, they magically reappear as if they were there the whole time.

You will have the slacker, who is there at least… but they are talking and not really doing anything while they watch the overachiever work. Finally, you will have the Space Cadet. They honestly have no clue what is going on… like, ever. The overachiever will try to help them (believe me, I know, I have often fallen into the overachiever category), but they will continue to be a space cadet. Don’t worry, it’s not you, it’s just who they are. Group Project

Cliques Still Exist

Remember the Cliques in High School? Well they exist in Protected Kingdoms as well. They are just called Alliances. Your number one Alliance? Those are your popular kids. The ones that are at the top of the food chain and everyone loves to hate. The jocks, for lack of a better descriptor. They even get crowned Prince and Princess.

Next, you have your Alliance of the uncool kids, but these are not just your uncool kids. They are the kids that make being uncool, cool. It’s an oxymoron, I know, but it works for them. Typically, they are one of the biggest rivals of the Jocks.

Of course, you still have your nerds. The nerds are some of my favorite people, these would be equivalent to the Traps in the protected Kingdoms. Because of their sheer skill, they can cross cultural barriers in alliances and hang out with everyone, including the jocks.

There are drama kids, these would be the Kingdom Chat Trolls. They are on a stage for everyone to see and make sure that they over dramatize everything. Finally, you have your shadow alliances. These are alliances that are not jocks, they don’t make uncool cool, and while they may have nerds, they are not nerds. These would be your “normal kids” in High School. They just want to get through the day.

Cliques

Peer Pressure Still Exists

Peer pressure in high school can be unreal. Here’s the truth, though: peer pressure exists everywhere. In a Protected Kingdom, it can take multiple forms. Whether it is the pressure to join a rally, to buy a pack, to reach a certain power, to test, to hit that unshielded player, or something else, that pressure is still there. Sometimes it is still fun though, razzing a player to encourage them to hit that trap… you know, the one that has already capped you a million times.

Peer Pressure

All The Gossip

Gossip: it spreads like wildfire in high school and a Protected Kingdom. For some reason, everyone knows everyone’s business. I may never have spoken to the little trap in that tiny alliance that is barely a blip on the radar, but I know what she is doing on Line and half of her life story. Well, that is, if the gossip was correct.

Gossip

KvK and Super Wonder are like Spring Break

Spring Break, Summer Vacation, whatever it may be, you’re freeeeeeeeeee!!!!! You get outside of the same four walls or borders that contain you for the rest of the time. Super Wonder and KvK is a source of excitement for many, but for Protected Kingdoms, it is their only chance to experience the rest of the GOW world. I remember starting in my own Home Kingdom and how excited we would get to port to Super Wonder and be a part of the bigger picture. It was our chance to get a “vacation” from our normal Kingdoms.

Spring Break

The Relationships

Game of War relationships. No matter how many times we say it is a game, not a dating app, we know the reality. We spend so much time with each other when we play this game that relationships end up forming. We know that trap is dating that lead and that player over there… they are definitely sending… ummmmmm…. let’s say graphic messages to another player.

Also, don’t forget about this player who is married but we know they are trying to get every girl in the kingdom to send them “pictures.” You know what pictures I am talking about. In our Protected Kingdoms, we see love triangles, the on-again-off-again couple, the couple that breaks up and tears apart their clique — we see every form of high school relationship in a Protected Kingdom and the drama that comes along with it.

Relationships

The Drama

Where should I begin? Or do I really need to? We all see the drama. It is aired out on Kingdom Chat on a daily basis. From arguments to people rage quitting because “this kingdom sucks,” it is rampant in a Protected Kingdom. We know that tomorrow those two will be besties again and the rage quitter will be rebuilding their account, but the drama is gonna happen.

Drama

The Reunion

At the end of high school, you graduate. When your Kingdom becomes Ancient, people port out and make homes in new Kingdoms. However, your Home Kingdom, or your Alma Mater, always hold a special place in your heart. In Game of War, they are notated by a little spot at the bottoms of our profiles. While we may move on, we still love the friends that we met in our Home Kingdom. Even if, in reality, sometimes we still hate them. While many of the people from my Home Kingdom have moved on and some do not play anymore, we still have our reunions.

We create rooms on Line simply to keep in touch with the people that have touched our hearts and lives. We get out of our Protected Kingdom and eventually we make new friends and lose contact with some of our old friends, but we always end up finding each other and finding ways to reminiscence about the people we played with and fought with.

Reunion

A Protected Kingdom has so many reasons that it reminds us of high school, but we often wonder if we ever truly leave. We still see so many of these aspects after we move on — just in a new place and it may look a little different.

In what ways did your Protected Kingdom remind you of high school? Comment below with your stories, we want to hear them!
